More about us.

Barry Town DFC is a special needs football club. All our players have either a physical or learning disability and have joined our club through a referral from local 560 officers,  disability Sport Wales or by word of mouth. Since the club was formed in 2000 our numbers have increased and we now have over 60 members.

Barry Town  DFC provides an opportunity for children and adults with disabilities to play and feel part of a team which strives to develop their confidence, and self- esteem it also helps with their social skills and working in a team environment. As well as our weekly training sessions we also travel to play matches and tournaments against other pan-disability teams. Our aim is to give everyone at the club the opportunity to play football.

We have also been proactive in finding opportunities for some of our players to compete at a higher level. Several of our players have played for the Cardiff and Vale college team and one player has represented the Wales Disability team against Ireland. Barry Town DFC also represented South Wales in the final of the Cwmpan y Bobbel cup on the floating pitch in Cardiff bay as part of the 2017 Champions League celebration.

We are run by a group of volunteers who are dedicated to the club and its members. The whole structure of the team is self funding and a not for profit organisation, we use any surplus to allow coaches to attend courses, new equipment to be purchased and hiring of transport to attend festivals.  The club is affiliated to the south Wales Football Association, and has links to FAW Trust, Disability Sport Wales, Vale of Glamorgan Council Healthy living staff and Insport.  As part of Barry Town United we also come under their Accreditation to the FAW and this year saw the club obtain a Platinum award.

We are very proud that the volunteers who run the Pan Disability team, and this was shown when one of our young coaches won the Outstanding Achievement award from the FAW in 2019.
